  18. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  19. ----------------------
  20.  
  21. To use Eudora Pro Demo for Windows Version 4.0.1, you must have the 
  22. following:
  23.  
  24. -  IBM PC or compatible.
  25. -  Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 or above.
  26.    (note:  it is recommended that you have the latest 
  27.    service pack for either operating system)
  28. -  Winsock 1.1 API compliant networking package
  29. -  A mail account with an Internet Service Provider or an 
  30.    Internet-style network.
  31. -  Access to your mail account via a modem or Internet-style 
  32.    network connection.

  36. INSTALLATION NOTES
  37. ------------------
  38.  
  39. 1.  When installing Eudora, make sure that you are not running any
  40.     other programs.
  41. 2.  Initially, you will be asked to install the installers which
  42.     will install the different components of Eudora Pro Email
  43.     4.0.1 Demo.
  44. 3.  Run the Setup.exe file in the directory specified in #2.
  45. 4.  Read carefully the License Agreement.
  46. 5.  Select the appropriate Eudora components.
  47. 6.  Select the directory where you want Eudora to be installed.
  48. 7.  Let the setup program install the software.  Depending on 
  49.     which components you selected, it will automatically run the 
  50.     selected setup programs.

  112. *    In addition to the default behavior of spell-checker, which 
  113.      is to bring up a dialog for misspelled words, you can now use 
  114.      a SHIFT-spell check to simply underline misspelled words.  
  115.      Right mouse clicking on misspelled words will provide a list 
  116.      of suggested corrections.
  117.  
  118. *    Previewed Messages can be automatically marked as Read - By 
  119.      default, this is unchecked in Tools:Options:Viewing Mail.
  120.  
  121. *    Shift+Space key - This keyboard shortcut toggles the 
  122.      read/unread status of a received message. This works for a 
  123.      TOC list selection and in any received message or 
  124.      Preview pane.
  125.  
  126. *    Tab-To-Next-Link in Preview Windows - Eudora interprets Tab 
  127.      keys in mailbox windows according to a new INI setting 
  128.      'SwitchPreviewWithTab' which is set to "1" (one) by default. 
  129.      To enable 'tab-to-next-link' in preview windows, you must 
  130.      manually add a 'SwitchPreviewWithTab=0' (zero) entry to the 
  131.      [Settings] section of the INI file.
  132.  
  133. *    You can now use <F6> as a keyboard shortcut to shift the 
  134.      focus between the two sides of the address book.
  135.  
  136. ------------------
  137. LIMITATIONS IN 4.0
  138. ------------------
  139.  
  140. *    Inserting pictures into composition messages is currently 
  141.      limited to jpeg and bitmap files only.
  142.  
  143. *    Backwards compatibility - Reverting to an earlier version 
  144.      from 4.0 will not preserve customized toolbar settings made 
  145.      while using 4.0. This may apply to some alpha / beta versions 
  146.      too.
  147.  
  148. *    Eudora may have issues with the installation of certain 
  149.      system DLLs if the user does not have administrative rights 
  150.      and the file system in use is NTFS.
  151.  
  152. *    Eudora is unable to change the system's default e-mail 
  153.      program if run by a user without administrative rights.
  154.  
  155. *    Clicking on a nickname in a maximized address book and 
  156.      exiting Eudora sometimes results in an abnormal shutdown.
  157.  
  158. *    Spell checker - The subject header is not checked for 
  159.      spelling errors.
  160.  
  161. *    Dial Up - Auto dial and hangup not implemented for IMAP 
  162.      accounts.
  163.  
  164. *    Multiple toolbars set up using this version will not be 
  165.      supported in later versions.
  166.  
  167. *    File Browser window - The 'Send to' option does not offer a 
  168.      selection like the Windows explorer.
  169.

  171. NEW FEATURES, CHANGES, LIMITATIONS IN 4.0.1
  172. -------------------------------------------
  173.  
  174. *    Long URL's are limited to 1024 characters.
  175.  
  176. *    There is a new Tools-Options-Styled Text section.
  177.      Show formatting toolbar -- displays the formatting toolbar
  178.           while editing a new message.
  179.      Discard style information -- does not allow styles to be sent
  180.           with the message.
  181.      Send style information with mail -- allows styles to be sent.
  182.      But warn me first -- if styles are in the message being sent,
  183.           then a warning dialog will display.
  184.      Send plain and styled versions in message -- new feature
  185.           which allows Multipart/Alternative formatted messages
  186.           to be sent.  This means that a single message from you
  187.           is sent which contains a plain-text version and a 
  188.           formatted version.  Users who use email programs which
  189.           do not support HTML will be able to read the plain-text
  190.           version of the message without any of the cryptic codes.
  191.  
  192. *    Offline is supported in Tools-Options-Incoming Mail.
  193.  
  194. *    <Shift>-<Space> in the mailbox window will toggle the current
  195.      message between read and unread.
  196.  
  197. *    New button in composition window allows you to view invisible
  198.      characters such as carriage returns.
  199.  
  200. *    Tools-Options-Mailboxes is a new section which contains the
  201.      Mailbox columns to be shown, mailbox characteristics, and
  202.      behavior of dragging within the mailbox.  Note that the new
  203.      setting "Select newly inserted messages (FUMLUB)" is here.
  204.      FUMLUB stands for First Unread Message Last Unread Block.
  205.      An unread block is considered a set of consecutive messages 
  206.      which are all marked as unread.  When this option is enabled
  207.      and an automatic mail check is performed, then the focus
  208.      will jump to the first message of the last unread block.
  209.      If FUMLUB is not checked, then an automatic check will not 
  210.      change the focus on the current message.
  211.  
  212. *    When sending a message with styles, it provides a new dialog
  213.      which warns you about sending styled text.  It will also 
  214.      present you with the options to send the message as a plain-
  215.      text message (formatting is stripped out), styled (formatting
  216.      is left intact), and plain & styled (a two-part message is
  217.      sent with the first part being plain-text and the second 
  218.      part being styled).
  219.  
  220. *    IMAP setting to "Skip Attachments over X K" does not seem to 
  221.      skip attachments > X K.  Note that inline images are always 
  222.      downloaded regardless of size.  This behavior may change
  223.      in EP 4.1 but not 4.0.1.
  224.  
  225. *    IMAP mailboxes/folders have some additional options in their
  226.      context menus by right-clicking on the mailbox.
  227.      Fetch - fetches messages not downloaded yet.  The following
  228.           options are not available if the message has already
  229.           been downloaded.  To redownload, see the next option.
  230.           "Include attachments" also fetches the attachment, but
  231.                this option is disabled if no attachments.
  232.           "Use defaults" uses the IMAP personality's settings.
  233.  
  234.      Redownload - fetch or re-fetch messages not downloaded yet.
  235.           This option is useful if an attachment or message was
  236.           corrupt.  The following options apply:
  237.           "Include attachments" also fetches the attachment, but
  238.                this option is disabled if no attachments.
  239.           "Use defaults" uses the IMAP personality's settings.
  240.  
  241.      Remove cached contents - changes message server status to an
  242.           open diamond which means that the message is not 
  243.           downloaded.  If you have the preview pane open, then
  244.           the current message will briefly change to an open 
  245.           diamond and then back to a solid diamond because the
  246.           message is downloaded when previewed.  The remedy is
  247.           to close the preview pane (press <F7> to toggle).
  248.  
  249. *    When Eudora sends or checks mail, it utilizes the In, Out, 
  250.      and Trash mailboxes.  These mailboxes are created by the 
  251.      system.  As these mailboxes are often used, it is good to 
  252.      maintain them.  If you experience slow sending of messages,
  253.      then check to make sure that your Out box is not too full.
  254.      If you experience slow downloading of messages, then check to
  255.      make sure that your In box is not too full.  It is good to 
  256.      empty your Trash mailbox on a regular basis.  It is also a
  257.      good idea to select Special-Compact Mailboxes to compress
  258.      your mailboxes so that they are not wasting any space.  If
  259.      you need to clean out your In or Out mailboxes and need to
  260.      keep the information, it is recommended that you create
  261.      another mailbox and move the messages to the new mailboxes.

  269. win-eudora-bugs@eudora.com. Describe what you did, what
  270. happened, what version of Eudora you have, any error
  271. messages Eudora gave (the numbers in parentheses ( )
  272. are especially important), what kind of computer you have,
  273. which operating system you're using, and anything else you
  274. think might be relevant.

  277. bug report has been received and forwarded to our
  278. engineering staff. Unless additional information is

  392. 3.  Technical Support.  Licensee must register in order to be 
  393. eligible for technical support via telephone or electronic mail.  
  394. For a period of ninety (90) days, commencing with the date of 
  395. Licensee's first telephone call requesting support, Licensee will 
  396. have access to technical support for the Software for the 
  397. technical contact designated on the product registration card 
  398. included with this package or specified via electronic mail 
  399. registration, subject to Licensee's compliance with QUALCOMM's 
  400. instructions for accessing such support and standard verification 
  401. procedures.   Upon the expiration of the above-described ninety 
  402. (90) day period, Licensee may extend technical support on a 
  403. per-incident or annual fee basis in accordance with QUALCOMM's 
  404. then pricing and terms.  Upgrades to the Software and its 
  405. documentation, if any, are not included and may be sold 
  406. separately.
  407.  
  408. 4.  Termination.  This License is effective until terminated.  
  409. Licensee may terminate this License at any time by destroying all 
  410. copies of the Software and its documentation.  This License will 
  411. terminate immediately without notice from QUALCOMM if Licensee 
  412. fails to comply with any provision of this License.  Upon 
  413. termination, Licensee must destroy all copies of the Software and 
  414. its documentation.
  415.  
  416. 5.  Export Law Assurances.  Licensee agrees and certifies that 
  417. neither the Software nor any other technical data received from 
  418. QUALCOMM, nor the direct product thereof, will be exported 
  419. outside the United States except as authorized and as permitted 
  420. by the laws and regulations of the United States.  If the 
  421. Software has been rightfully obtained by Licensee outside of the 
  422. United States, Licensee agrees that Licensee will not re-export 
  423. the Software nor any other technical data received from QUALCOMM, 
  424. nor the direct product thereof, except as permitted by the laws 
  425. and regulations of the United States and the laws and regulations 
  426. of the jurisdiction in which Licensee obtained the Software.  The 
  427. Software may not be exported to any of the following countries:  
  428. Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, or Syria.
  429.  
  430. 6.  Government End Users.  If Licensee is acquiring the Software 
  431. on behalf of any unit or agency of the United States Government, 
  432. the following provisions apply.  The Government agrees: (i) if 
  433. the Software is supplied to the Department of Defense ("DOD"), 
  434. the Software is classified as "Commercial Computer Software" and 
  435. the Government is acquiring only "restricted rights" in the 
  436. Software and its documentation as that term is defined in Clause 
  437. 252.227-7013(c)(1) of the DFARS; and (ii) if the Software is 
  438. supplied to any unit or agency of the United States Government 
  439. other than DOD, the Government's rights in the Software and its 
  440. documentation will be as defined in Clause 52.227-19(c)(2) of the 
  441. FAR or, in the case of NASA, in Clause 18-52.227-86(d) of the NASA 
  442. Supplement to the FAR.
  443.  
  444. 7.  Limited Warranty on Diskettes.  QUALCOMM warrants the 
  445. diskettes on which the Software is recorded to be free from 
  446. defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a 
  447. period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase.  QUALCOMM's 
  448. entire liability and Licensee's exclusive remedy will be 
  449. replacement of the diskettes not meeting QUALCOMM's limited 
  450. warranty and which are returned to the place of purchase within 
  451. such warranty period.  QUALCOMM will have no responsibility to 
  452. replace a diskette damaged by accident, abuse or misapplication.  
  453. ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES ON THE DISKETTES INCLUDING THE IMPLIED 
  454. WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR 
  455. PURPOSE ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO NINETY (90) DAYS FROM THE DATE 
  456. OF PURCHASE.
  457.  
  458. 8.  Disclaimer of Warranty.  Licensee expressly acknowledges and 
  459. agrees that the use of the Software and its documentation is at 
  460. Licensee's sole risk.  The Software, documentation, and technical 
  461. support are provided "AS IS" and without warranty of any kind.  
  462. Information regarding any third party services included in this 
  463. package is provided as a convenience only, without warranty by 
  464. QUALCOMM, and will be governed solely by the terms agreed upon 
  465. between Licensee and the third party providing such services.
  466.  
  467. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED UNDER APPLICABLE LAWS, 
  468. QUALCOMM AND QUALCOMM'S LICENSOR(S) (FOR THE PURPOSES OF 
  469. PROVISIONS 8 AND 9, QUALCOMM AND QUALCOMM'S LICENSOR(S) SHALL 
  470. BE COLLECTIVELY REFERRED TO AS QUALCOMM) EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL 
  471. WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE 
  472. IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR 
  473. PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT.  QUALCOMM DOES NOT WARRANT THAT 
  474. THE FUNCTIONS CONTAINED IN THE SOFTWARE WILL MEET LICENSEE'S 
  475. REQUIREMENTS, OR THAT THE OPERATION OF THE SOFTWARE WILL BE 
  476. UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DEFECTS IN THE SOFTWARE

  505. 10.  No Waiver or Assignment.  No delay or failure to take action 
  506. under this License will constitute a waiver unless expressly 
  507. waived in writing, signed by a duly authorized representative of 
  508. QUALCOMM, and no single waiver will constitute a continuing or 
  509. subsequent waiver.  This License may not be assigned, sublicensed 
  510. or otherwise transferred by Licensee, by operation of law or 
  511. otherwise, without QUALCOMM's prior written consent, provided that 
  512. Licensee may assign this License upon written notice to QUALCOMM 
  513. in instances in which such assignment is to an entity which 
  514. acquires all or substantially all of the business of Licensee,

  517. 11.  Controlling Law and Severability.  This License shall be 
  518. governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the 
  519. United States and the State of California, as applied to 
  520. agreements entered into and to be performed entirely within

  522. court of competent jurisdiction finds any provision of this 
  523. License, or portion thereof, to be unenforceable, that provision 
  524. of the License shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible
